The aim of our program is to help the acceptance of handicapped people through informative sessions with our disabled presenters. We organize the visit of different institutions by our disabled dog owners and their dogs and during these sessions we introduce different types of disabilities to the students.
The aim of our sensitizing program is not only the integration of the disabled and the help for them to get equal opportunities, but to improve the social skills of the wholesome students (helpfulness, empathy, cooperative skills) and to provide personality and social development.
We are very flexible, we take every demand into account: there are several different methods applied during the special classes – interactive and situational games, small group discussions, the chance to try out tools and aids, team building sessions with a four-legged ‘referee’ (para-agility); a short assistance dog demo show is also in our program.
Reasons for choosing the particular form:
Our service is built upon our own experience. Members of our fellowship get more and more invitations every year from schools to hold presentations on their condition, their personal cast. Within the boundaries of the current project we would like to improve our sensitizing service and extend our target audience.
The results of our survey based on 253 questionnaires have shown that with our sensitizing program we have made a quite significant change among the students – after a thematically structured session with our assistance dogs the number of answers reflecting a positive attitude has grown significantly.
